How to Remove an Indicator (Uninstall Indicators) in NinjaTrader 8 – Part 8
There are a couple of reasons why you’d want to uninstall indicators in NinjaTrader 8. Perhaps you are upgrading to a newer version of the indicator and no longer need the old one. Maybe you want to clear up indicators that you don’t use anymore. Whatever the case is, NinjaTrader makes the removal process easy. Simply go to the NinjaTrader 8 Control Center > Tools > Remove NinjaScript Assembly > click the indicator to be removed > click Remove. A message should appear indicating the indicator as been successfully removed.
If you’re upgrading or reinstalling the indicator with the same name (say the vendor has come out with a new version with bug fixes and other improvements), you must restart NinjaTrader at this point. It’s very important you do so. Otherwise, NinjaTrader has an unexpected behavior where if you import an indicator with the same name (i.e. the new version), it will use the old version. Restarting NinjaTrader ensures the indicator is fully removed. When NinjaTrader starts back up, you’re free to install the newer version.
Uninstall Indicators – Precautions
When you uninstall indicators, if you plan to import the indicators again in the future, keep each indicator’s .zip file. Note that NinjaTrader 7 indicators are incompatible with Ninjatrader 8. NinjaTrader 8 introduced over 200 changes to NinjaScript, a version of the C# language used to program indicators. Therefore, indicator programmers have been very busy working with vendors to updating/converting code to operate under the new changes. Some of the improvements to NinjaTrader 8 are related to indicators and performance. NinjaTrader 8 reportedly has better memory management, which should allow you to use intensive indicators and have more enabled per chart. Using too many indicators is generally a bad thing, as conflicting signals can cause confusion. Chart clutter is a problem, too. Sometimes it’s best to keep it simple.
